HISTORY OF BUGs NETBALL CLUB

Club History

The club was started in March 1998, after the founders Bernadette Pollard and Sandy Thorn decided that opportunities for the children in relation to netball were very limited and a lot of talent was not being used to its full potential.

2007-2008
New season started
U12, U14 and U16 come and join in all welcome.

2006-2007
Another brilliant season, Pontins was a wonderful time the U12 reached the quarter finals of the plate.
The U14 won the Basingstoke league, and the end of season versatility tournament.
The U12 won the Basingstoke end of season versatility tournament.
The U16 worked hard against the top teams.

2005-2006
The club has just had another brilliant year with an u11 team playing in the Basingstoke league and winning every game, the U14 won their league and many of the junior players representing the club in Div 1 at Basingstoke and winning the league.
Many of the girls were chosen to represent Hampshire North and a few going onto the PDP for the south.

2003-2004
This season we are trying to build and develop the club further by encouraging more members and parents to participate with the running of the club. There are many courses available to attend please contact your team manager and show your interest.
The number of teams has increased to 6 now with all entered into the local Basingstoke league, these include U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, and U17 (Basingstoke Senior league). This has stretched our resources but we are trying to keep up the amount of participation for the girls.

2002-2003
The season was again a very successful season for all those concerned. A big thanks to all the parents and people who helped with training, transport, tournaments, umpiring and organising.
There are many congratulations to everyone to be given and here are just a few highlights of their successes........
The U16 came runners up in the U16 league and had a very good season..... Many of them joined in with the adults in the senior league and also a few were encouraged to participate in the umpiring course at Basingstoke.
The U15 won the Basingstoke U16 league both sections. They also did very well at Pontins qualifying for the cup competition and learnt a lot from their opponents and about themselves. Many of the U15 also played in the senior league.
The U14 came runners up in the U14 league and many of them remain in that league again for the forthcoming season so good luck. They also participated at Pontins with many younger players but it was an experience and something to build on.
2001-2002
Again a large representative number of our girls represented the county. Many others still in development squads.
Teams entered into each division of the local Basingstoke league and the U12 won the league and versatility tournament. The U14 came runners up in both the league and versatility tournament. The U16 won both as well. Other tournaments entered and lots of talent displayed.
Two of the greatest achievements for club and all members is the scouting of Becky, Roseanne, Emma and Hannah by England scouts. Becki and Roseanne both attended trials. Also the visit for the first time to heats of the Nationals ended up in both teams qualifying for the South West.
2000-2001

The club and its reputation were beginning to grow. Immediately highlighted in the fact that 25% of both the U14 and U16 County Squads were children from the club, with other club members on the fringes of these squads in the development squads. One of the children within the U15 age groups has also been asked to attend a selection session for the England Youth team.

Training and development has taken place for members of the club including our founder members achieving their Level 2 All England Netball Association Coaching Award, qualified first aider at the club and trainee umpires.

More teams were entered into various age groups and leagues at Basingstoke, as we now draw to the end of the season the U14 are awaiting their final match for first place in the league, the U15 playing in a adult division await their final match and victory hopefully in that league, the U13 played courageously in an older age group but have only had a few defeats.

As we now draw to the end of the league season the tournaments begin and the children have been entered in tournaments in East Grinstead, Burgess Hill, Turnford, Brean Sands, Bournemouth and Basingstoke hoping to enjoy some more success.

The club has started to attract children from far and wide and numerous schools. The club has also been prompted into entering the children into the National Club Championship beginning in September of this year.

1999-2000 Season

3 teams represented the club in the Basingstoke league-playing club and school teams from around the area, within the U12 and U14 age groups. The U12 were rewarded with runners up trophy at the end of the season. Various age groups made trips to tournaments in Sussex, Somerset and Herts. One of the U14 teams won the tournament in East Grinstead and again the U12 added to their collection from the plate competition. Some of the older children had also started to play for the adult team in their league and helped this team achieve first place in division 1. The club also had a few representatives in the County Squads.
