BUGS GO TO BURGESS HILL   01/05/10

Firstly a big thank you to all those who took part in the netball match at Burgess Hill last Saturday. There was an admirable effort from all and we played extremely well, despite heavy rain and sleet showers. For over 50% of the players it was there first big tournament. The team consisted of: Maisie (WA), Jessica (C), Catherine (WD), Alex (GS), Lexi (GA), Holly (GD) and Danielle (GK).

Some remarkable shots were made by both Lexi and Alex, brilliant passes taken by Jessica and Holly and some superb interception skills were shown by Maisie and Catherine. We played eight games in total, winning three , drawing two and losing three. We all played to the best of our abilities and strengths, thoroughly enjoying all the matches. I think the team won’t be able to wait till next time!

Report from Georgie U13

On Saturday the 1st of May the U13 team went to Burgess Hill for a tournament.

In the morning we had some great games. We had one hard opposition: West Sussex A,
but we won against them with some great shooting from Delaney and Izzy, so we were all very pleased.
We won another 2 and unfortunately lost 2 in the morning but still had 3 games left to play in the afternoon.

Then we had some harder teams such as Eagles. This was our hardest match, and with some good centre court playing and defending we did not give up, however we did lose.

Throughout the day there was some excellent shooting from Izzy, Delaney and Rebecca. The defensive team: Rebecca, Christine and Georgie got some good interceptions and worked well together as a unit. The centre court players: Vicky, Phoebe and Christine ensured the play was smooth and effective.

Despite the heavy rain and hard competition, it was a good team effort and we all tried our best. In the end, we lost 5 games and won 3.

Well done to all who played and thank you to all the supporters for encouraging us to continue in the awful weather!

BUGS claim second place in tough tournament

On a cloudy Saturday morning, Bordon United Girls (“BUGS”) netball club set out for a tournament in Mid-Sussex with a positive attitude and looking forward to an exciting day. The U15 team line-up was a little unfamiliar, having not played together for sometime but they were determined to do their best.

The day started well with a victory – playing Brighton, unknown opponents, the first half was somewhat scrappy but the team worked well in the second period, with some good handling of the ball to claim a 5-4 victory.

Unfortunately, the weather gradually deteriorated and the second match was played in torrential rain against Poole who proved very strong opposition. After a good start, the team eventually lost, appearing less able to cope with the adverse weather.

However, the weather slowly improved and by the third match, against Mid-Sussex A Team, the sun was trying to break through the clouds. Appearing to be lifted by the improving weather, the team again worked hard and earned a well deserved win which lifted team spirit.

Inspired by this result, BUGS approached their next game, against CD Phoenixwith much enthusiasm playing well to enjoy a 8-5 win.

The penultimate game was against Mid Sussex B Team.  BUGS again started strongly with a good first half performance but unfortunately they couldn’t maintain this high standard and eventually lost the match.

Nevertheless, the team approached their last game with real enthusiasm – having watched their final opponents throughout the day, MK Netters were considered one of the strongest teams at the tournament.  BUGS went into the match with real determination, committed to apply all their remaining energy to finish the competition as best they could. Pleasingly, this positive approach saw them take a commanding first half lead of 6-2However, Netters came back strongly in the second half but BUGS efforts were rewarded as they eventually ran out 8-7 winners.

With the tournament finished, BUGS looked back on a thoroughly enjoyable day – the team worked well together, playing some good netball and were worthy of their runner up position in a tough competition.

Team:  Sarah, Hannah, Evie, Fleur, Alex, Jennie, Beth, Holly
